Sunnyvale is a beautiful city in the San Francisco Bay Area located just an hour away from the Pacific Ocean. It has a picturesque setting and is very close to California’s famous Redwood Forests, as well as Lake Tahoe in the Sierra Nevada. These two locations are perfect for summer exploring and winter skiing. The city has a Mediterranean climate with warm summers, averaging in the high 70’s, and mild winters, which average in the mid 50’s,
Greater Sunnyvale is a urban hive of activity. There is a huge variety of theatres, concert halls, museums, libraries, and art galleries, which makes it a perfect fit for those with a creative mind. The city boasts over 45 regional and neighbourhood centres, including the unique Murphy Ave, which offers downtown shopping and fine dining in Sunnyvale’s historic business district.
One of the greatest assets of Sunnyvale is it’s convenient location in regards to educational institutions. Within an hours drive away are many prestigious universities, such as Stanford University, San Jose State University, Santa Clara University, and the University of California. As well, there are several colleges that are only minutes away from the city, such as Cogswell College, De Anza, Foothill, Mission Community Colleges, and West Valley.
The city is famous for its high quality, efficient services. It has combined its police and fire functions all into one department - The Public Safety Department. This concept has been revolutionary and has provided an award winning record of safety and efficiency. Sunnydale is very proud of its commitment to their citizens. The city ensures that all public facilities, such as its full service library, are up to date and are kept in good repair. Sunnyvale also has 18 award winning parks that are available to the public.
In November 2009, for the first time in three decades, several main streets downtown were opened to vehicle and pedestrian traffic as the main construction was finally completed. In December of the same year, the city began working on the exteriors of some of the buildings on McKinley Ave and Washington Ave, as well as the two office towers on Mathilda. They also started to weatherize the partially-completed Redwood Square building.
