Victorville is a city located in south-western San Bernardino County with a current population of approximately 112,097. It skirts the edge of the Mojave Desert in Victor Valley. Adelanto, Apple Valley, and Hesperia are all small communities that are located nearby, and the larger city of Los Angles is located about 82 miles southwest of the city.

Victorville was incorporated in 1962 with the originally name of Victor. However, in 1901, the U.S post office changed the name due to the fact that mail was getting sent to Victor, Colorado instead of it‘s intended address. The new name came from Jacob Nash Victor, who was construction superintendent for the southern railroad. The California State Highway and the Interstate I-15 run through the city, and US Route 395 runs nearby. Until the Interstate I-15 was constructed, the main national transportation route from Chicago to Illinois was US Route 66, which was established in 1926. It ran right through Victorville.

Originally, Victorville was primarily an agricultural community. One large deposits of limestone and granite were found, the city slowly began relying on the cement manufacturing industry to support the economy.

There are many activities and attractions that appeal to both tourists and residents alike. Due to its prime location, there is mountain skiing and water sports located just minutes away. As well, Las Vegas is close by so many travel there for entertainment. The California Route 66 Museum is located in Victorville, and there are several photos and artifacts that have been collected over the years that tell the history of the highway. There is also the Fire Museum, which chronicles the fire fighting history of the city since the 1930’s.

In Spring, the San Bernardino County Fair is held here. It is a full blown event, complete with carnival rides, livestock competitions, and celebrity concerts. There is also a performing arts centre located downtown, which hosts several concerts, musicals, and plays per year.
