It has also been ranked as one of the safest cities in the United States with a population over 75,000. Santa Clara has some of the quickest emergency response times in California, along with the highest fire rating in Santa Clara County.
Like many other cities in the area, Santa Clara has a strong focus on saving the environment. The main goals of the city are to develop sustainable renewable energy resources along with reducing greenhouse gases. In 1975, the city was one of the first in California to develop solar utilities. It was also one of the first to implement the recycled water program. Santa Clara offers awards for initiatives that result in being environmentally friendly.
