Fullerton is situated in northern Orange County and currently has a population of 126,003. It was established in 1887 by George and Edward Amerige, The land was secured for Atchison, Santa Fe Railway, and Topeka by George H. Fullerton, who the city was named after.
Originally, the city was focused primarily on agriculture. The warm climate allows groves of citrus crops (in particular Valencia oranges), to flourish. Other thriving sectors in Fullerton include petroleum extraction, manufacturing, and transportation. The education sector also provides a notable amount to the economy, with the California State University, Fullerton being the highest contributor.
Downtown Fullerton has undergone about 20 years of renovations. It combines an old town atmosphere with updated, modern buildings that over a variety of goods and surfaces. There is a growing number of cafes and restaurants establishing themselves along with new entertainment facilities. There are over 70 historic buildings located downtown that are shaded by an abundance of shade trees and decorative walkways. The city offers over 2500 free parking spaces so that consumers can easily access the enormous amount of space dedicated to retail and office space. (350 000 square feet and 275 000 square feet, respectively.) Many exciting venues are located downtown, such as the Downtown Plaza, Museum Center, and the Plummer Auditorium. Fullerton offers a variety of financial, religious, and government institutions to satisfy all the residents of the city. Over 350 000 people rely on the regional transportation system per year.
