There are a set of safety precautions that the operator needs to follow in the case of bridge crane operation. These include not hoisting, not lowering, and not moving a load while a person is on the load. Also, the movement of the load must be avoided when there is a human in its pathway. Further, a side pull, wherein some horizontal force is applied to a side of a load which is already suspended from the crane, is also to be avoided. In the circumstances where the aforementioned stipulations are unavoidable, it is advised that the maneuvering be carried out in a highly controlled and well-regulated environment. There are specific safety standards that guide and address the design, installation, operation, inspection, maintenance and repair of bridge crane systems. These safety standards are put in place by various professional societies, and administered by government agencies.
